David has today [24 May] been selected to stand as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Southend West and Leigh.
David is an active campaigner, a school governor and a former councillor and Mayor of Basildon.
He has experience across his career of working hard for people and communities facing adversity. David’s passion in life is fighting for equality and inclusion for the many in our society, challenging injustice and enabling people to thrive. He has helped to raise large sums for good causes during his career and built teams to work effectively for key goals.
Like many in Southend West and Leigh, David is keen to champion and support those suffering from the housing crisis, long NHS waiting lists and the explosive rise in the cost-of-living. He will also finally hold the water companies to account for their excessive sewage dumping in our waters.
A Labour government will bring a decade of national renewal that will transform the lives of the people in Southend West and Leigh.
Speaking after their selection, David Burton-Sampson said:
“I’m delighted to be chosen to stand for Labour in Southend West and Leigh. I have lived in Essex since 1999 and I adore being part of the vibrant Southend coastal community.
“I also, however, see the challenges faced by the local community after 14 years of a disastrous Tory government.
“I am passionate about making a difference for people’s lives and I commit now to fight for the residents of Southend and Leigh-on-Sea, ensuring they have the opportunities to access the services and support they need to live a healthier, happier and fairer life.
“Only a Labour government can deliver the change that Southend West and Leigh needs: getting the NHS back on its feet and taking back our streets by tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.
“I will give voice to the hard-working people of this community and fight to make sure that jobs and opportunities are brought back to Southend West and Leigh.”
