Zara Layne has today [15 May] been selected to stand as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Harpenden and Berkhamsted.
A mother to two spirited daughters and also a councillor, Zara has a strong track record in campaigning to improve local services and quality of life for local residents. She wants to see greater accountability for elected officials, more access to GP appointments, a reduction in antisocial behaviour and increased, quality transport links for residents.
Zara is an experienced caseworker, and has supported residents with issues relating to housing, social care, education, pensions and social security amongst others. She is a passionate believer in the power of community with an academic background writing about adult social care and has worked with charities helping older people.
Zara also wants to make sure businesses thrive and for the cultural and arts sector to continue to grow in the constituency.
Speaking after their selection, Zara Layne said:
“It is the greatest honour to be selected to run as a candidate for Harpenden and Berkhamsted.
“I believe that our cities, towns and villages need a Labour Government to be able to thrive again. Services we all rely on have been decimated by 14 years of disastrous Tory government.
“I promise I would dedicate myself to working for all the residents in Harpenden and Berkhamsted and hope they share my belief that with Labour in power we can build a fairer society for all.”
