Recently, Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party, visited Stevenage to see a new social housing development being built by the Labour-run local council despite huge cuts from the Tory.

He was taken around the project by the Leader of Stevenage Borough Council, Sharon Taylor. The development is the first of its kind for 25 years in Stevenage and will see 31 new council homes built.

He said:

“Housing is crucial and housing that people can afford is crucial.

Here we’ve got a development going on of new council housing which will be life-time tenancy for people.”

Sharon said: “It would be nice to think everyone could afford their own homes, but they can’t.

“I think coming to Stevenage showed Jeremy is very committed to the idea of affordable housing and I am firmly convinced there will always be a need for high quality social housing.”
