Ashley Dalton – PPC for Rochford and Southend East

I’ve lived in Rochford and Southend East for 25 years. It’s where I work and have raised a family. I am so proud to be Labour’s candidate for the place I call home.

The Tories are struggling to negotiate Brexit, universal credit is plunging ever increasing numbers of people into relative poverty and NHS Trusts are cannot cope with the depth of Tory cuts. Southend hospital continues to be under threat with cuts of £30 million per year coming down the line and all our schools are struggling to make ends meet.

It doesn’t have to be this way. That’s why I’ll be out and about, speaking to as many people as possible between now and the next election to deliver Labour’s message of hope for a government that stands up for the many, not the few.

Jill Borcherds – PPC For Stevenage

I am delighted to be Labour’s candidate for the next General Election for my home seat of Stevenage. I have lived in Stevenage itself since 1989 and have always enjoyed spending time in the countryside and villages that surround the town. When I first moved to Stevenage, I worked for Sainsbury’s; I subsequently trained to be a teacher and have taught Maths in Stevenage secondary schools since 1996. My children were born and grew up in Stevenage.

As a teacher, I work in collaboration with colleagues in schools across Hertfordshire, where we have seen the devastating effect of austerity on Education, which I know has been replicated across the Public Sector, and all parts of society. In my work with children, I am only to aware of the effects of years of Conservative ideology driven austerity that have hampered local Councils’ ability to provide the for local residents. Under Labour, the council housing stock could be re-vitalised and investment provided to grow a thriving local economy providing high quality jobs. Stevenage is well connected – with a nationalised railway, improved bus services and upgrading of our unique cycleway system we could have sustainable transport linking town and villages alike.

My experience talking to voters when campaigning has made me aware that far too many feel that politics and politicians have no relevance in their own lives; we need to reconnect with these people to ensure that they always use their precious right to vote. Please support my campaign for this crucial seat by volunteering or donating, so we can deliver a Labour government that works for the many and not just the few.

Karen Davis – PPC for Norwich North

I’m delighted to be Labour’s candidate for the next General Election for my home seat of Norwich North. I live in the city with my family and our two dogs, am a qualified teacher and a proud trade unionist. I joined the Labour Party in 2015 and I am now a City Councillor for Town Close ward, Norwich City Council Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion and Norwich Labour Party Women’s Officer.

For years I never thought someone like me could become an MP. I’ve led a varied life. I’ve worked in bars and in catering, spent a short while living in a squat and have never had much money, I even did my degree at UEA the hard way – as a mature student with a young child and scraping by on low wages from casual work.

When I caught the bug for public service, I worked in schools with young people from troubled backgrounds at risk of failing their exams and have helped disadvantaged families eat well on a limited budget.

A priority for Labour is to reconnect with people who feel little connection with formal politics and to encourage them to regularly use their right to vote. I’ve spent many years with people who feel this disconnection and understand that disenchantment well. Not only am I committed to doing something about that, I have the experience and track record as a local campaigner to achieve it.

Please support my campaign for this crucial seat by volunteering or donating, so we can deliver a Labour government that works for the many and not just the few.

John Kent – PPC for Thurrock

I am really proud to have been selected as Thurrock Labour’s candidate for the next General Election. I am really proud because Thurrock is my home, Thurrock is where I live, it’s where I work, it’s where I brought my family up.

I get really angry when I see on a daily basis the impact of some of the things that the Conservative Government is doing to our community. I see it in the cuts that are being made to our schools, and I see it in the cuts to our vital health services.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. There is a better way. As your MP supporting a transformative Labour Government for the many not the few, things can and will get better for people here in Thurrock.

Laura McAlpine – PPC for Harlow

My name is Laura McAlpine, and I am standing to be your next MP. I live and grew up in Harlow, where I enjoyed a brilliant childhood and a great education, first at Little Parndon and later Burnt Mill schools. I was also lucky enough to benefit from the excellent youth services that once existed in the town, such as the play-schemes, Connexions and the Square.

My roots in Harlow run deep; my Granny, Jean McAlpine, served as a Harlow Labour Councillor for 20 years. My Grandad, a plumber, helped to build Harlow in the years after the war. Both my parents lived and worked in Harlow … the town is my home, and I care deeply about it.

As I have grown up I have personally experienced many of the issues currently affecting Harlow. It’s unjust that young people are priced out of the area they grew up in; that families are scared to shop in certain areas due to a rise in crime, or that the elderly and disabled are isolated and their bus routes cut because they aren’t deemed profitable enough.

Under this Tory government, we have seen services axed, police numbers dwindle, and school resources decimated. House prices and private rents have soared, and council budgets have been slashed. I will be a MP for Harlow & the Villages and fight with all my might for policies which prioritise Education, Housing, and Jobs. You and I, and our families, deserve better.

I have a deep passion for improving the lives of everyone who lives here. Often people say that ‘all politicians are the same …’ But having grown up in Harlow and struggled myself, I can promise you, the only thing I am ‘the same as,’ is the people I want to represent. When the time comes, I’m hoping your vote can help me achieve that ambition.

Chris Ostrowski – PPC for Watford

Watford is where I live. It where my children were born and where they go to school – it’s the place we call home.

I work for a public investment organisation and commute daily to London from Watford Junction. I have seen how the high cost of transport, stalling wages and sky-high rents and house-prices have caused many families in Watford to suffer.

Watford is an amazing place to live and I am proud of our diversity; my grandfather emigrated to England in the 1940s. He was a Polish airman who fought the Nazis in the second world war and it’s never been more important that we defend the values that he fought for.

If Britain is to have a Labour Government and if Jeremy Corbyn is to become Prime Minister, Labour has to win in Watford.

I am passionate about putting people first; for too long politics has been distant from the lives of voters. I will be the voice in Parliament for all Watford’s residents – for the many, not the few.

Rosie Newbigging – PPC for Welwyn Hatfield

I am delighted to have been selected as Labour’s candidate for Welwyn Hatfield. It is a seat which we will win so that we can deliver a Labour government and start re-building our country to deliver a fair and just society run for the many, not the few.

This Tory government has overseen the biggest cuts to our public services in a generation. The NHS and social care is in crisis, our schools are struggling under the weight of the budget cuts and cuts to police budgets are putting our safety at risk.

People here in Welwyn Hatfield need a local representative that will put them first. I will work tirelessly between now and the next general election. It will be a clear choice between a Labour Party that will stand up for the people of Welwyn Hatfield or a Conservative Party that only looks after the privileged few.
